近幾年北京霧霾的危害性逐年嚴重，不僅引起大陸社會的高度關注，也有不少治理霧霾的妙法逐一出現，繼荷蘭著名設計師丹?羅斯加德設計的「霧霾塔」後，北京雁棲湖國際會展中心（以下簡稱「會展中心」）也在巧妙設計與科技幫助下，透過綠建築等節能設計降低對城市的汙染，並可望達到淨化霧霾的效果。

自2013年4月起動土，會展中心的設計團隊即明確指出，會展中心的未來定位，除將成為大陸第一個會展類綠色三星的建築物，並在專案初期，邀請到大陸各方的專家進行專題研討；期盼讓會展中心項目成為融入山水的綠色建築，而非突兀的地標性建築。

北京會展中心建設時的場館高度、跨度都經過科學精算，並在特定位置進行了外環境風測試、光照測試等，以順利達到被動節能的效果；不僅在玻璃帷幕窗的設計上，能於春秋兩季自動每小時換氣3.5次，屋簷也能完全遮陽逾8小時，且在材料選擇上，運用類似木飾面鋁板的低甲醛環保建材。

為了改善環境的汙染，大陸各地政府先後推出各式綠建築政策，除了北京的會展比價中心被視為大陸的綠建築範例外，廣東梅洲也推出「每平方公尺最高獎勵80元人民幣」的綠建築補助，天津市則耗資28億元人民幣建設「金貿產業園綠色建築展示中心」等，以綠建築改善環境汙染的方式，可說是各省分皆卯足了勁。
